It is because many Africans love taking control, love being in control, they would rather own the whole business even if it is producing nothing than own a small piece of the company that brings in millions.
Another reason founders die with their businesses is that they lack a proper succession plan which upon their demise, assets are fought over by those left behind and because of greed, nothing can be saved.
Lack of a well defined vision is probably a major contributor. When those who are meant to succeed the founder have no idea, no plan, no roadmap on where the founder was taking the business, it is bound to fail, or crumble.
Founders should be trained on how to communicate their vision to their staff from the onset and it should be a culture where everyone in the business organization knows the vision.
